Hi! I’m Habby.

I got my first period in middle school. At Disney World. Day 1 of the trip. It sucked. But what sucked more was realizing that the pain and discomfort I felt was something I’d have to live with for decades on end until I tasted the “sweet relief” of menopause. It was realizing that every month, I’d either have to step aside from activities that were important to me, or perform through the pain. That I would have to live my life in cycles…

Since the beginning, I’ve struggled with painful, heavy and often debilitating periods. Not only did I feel alone in my pain, I felt hopeless. I thought there was no option but birth control — the side effects of which are terrifying and not properly studied. And all of this on top of period products that weren’t truly designed for periods, never mind heavy ones.

Western medicine and the U.S. healthcare system have historically forgotten, mistreated and sidelined women. And after appointment after appointment of birth control being shoved down my throat as my only option, I decided it was enough. I refused to blindly place my wellbeing in the hands of an inherently misaligned system, and that’s what set me on a path to figure out how to get my life back.

Searching for traditional answers and finding nothing substantial, I looked for less traditional ways to heal my body. And it’s in this search that I learned there’s hope. There’s power in nature. There’s power in what we eat and how we live.

Slowly, as I learned about foods that nourished and replenished me with vitamins and minerals I had lacked for so long, my periods slowly began to get better. I began to see healing. As I discarded products that leeched toxicity into my body, I began to see healing. As I started being more physical and addressing emotional stress stored in my body, I began to see healing.

And that’s when I knew the answers I found had to be shared with all the women who’ve felt tossed aside and forgotten by a healthcare system that promised to help. I’m nowhere near an expert, but I’m trying my best to find people smarter than me to help educate and lead women toward a freer, more enjoyable and more fulfilling life. One that’s not dictated by cycles of misery.

Now that the intense stuff is outta the way…

I think it’s also necessary to tell you a little bit about myself that’s not centered around my period. So, getting straight to the point — Bread in any form is my favorite food. I hate coffee. (I know, blasphemy.) And I’m on a journey to learn how to do a handstand.

I recently learned about Dungeons & Dragons and I’m obsessed. I love traveling. Some of the coolest places I’ve been are Switzerland, Nigeria and Cuba. Two of my favorite books (as of right now) are Long Way Down and Me Before You. I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Nigerian parents. Search Party is the coolest show I’ve ever seen. Ever. And I jam out to Musical Theater to get through my workouts.

About The Name

Wosana is derived from the Yoruba word Wosan (Whoa – Sohn) which means To Heal. It was important to me that the name of this company spoke to who I am and what I’m trying to achieve. As a proud child of Nigerian immigrants, this name is an ode to those whose sacrifice and dedication allowed me to be where I am. As I try to do better for those coming behind me, it’s important that I honor those who came before. This is for all of us.
